SLOWING RISING TEMPERATURES AS A WARM FRONT MOVES THROUGH….

Clouds have been the theme today with only a rather brief period
of sunshine early this morning. A few light showers were evident
on radar this morning well to our northwest, from which we could
see the virga, however, no precipitation has fallen here today.
As such, the dry spell continues with the month already coming in
with a 0.45″ precipitation deficit!

Temperatures started the day on the chilly side with many areas
surrounding the Hill down into the low to mid 20s. Here on the
summit, the low only bottomed out in the low 30s thanks to the
inversion. With the inversion being slow to lift today, temperature
readings have been slow to rise. We’ve only reached the upper 40s
so far early this afternoon.

Winds were very light, and even calm at times during the morning
hours. Right after noon-time however, it was like a switch was
flipped as the wind quite suddenly started to pick up out of the
south. The average speed for the day so far is only around 5mph,
but the average for the last hour was around 10mph, showing the
noticeable increase in speeds. The peak gust so far is 18mph, which
occurred at around 1:40pm.

Visibility has been gradually improving through the day. A smoke
layer/pollution that was trapped under the inversion held the view
to only around 30-35 miles early this morning. The view has improved
to around 50 miles by early this afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 48F, which is 6 degrees
below the normal high of 54F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 33F, which is 4 degrees below the normal low of 37F.
