DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2013
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
FIRST FLAKES OF THE SEASON FALL IN RAIN AND SNOW MIX EARLY SUNDAY
TEMPERATURES DROP INTO 20’S EARLY THIS MORNING
The first snowflakes of the season accompanied the light rain which
fell Sunday morning. The rainfall was once again a very small amount
of only 0.06 inch. This was the 7th daily rainfall out of 8 daily
amounts to accumulate less than one tenth of an inch.
The low temperature of 27F this morning was our coldest of the
season to date and coldest since early last April.
We were declared to be in a moderate drought last week the only
0.16 inch so far this month has done nothing to ease the continuing
shortage of precipitation. The last significant daily rainfall was
just over a half inch way back on October 6th.
At our Hingham cooperative station the dry conditions extend all
the way back to early August with only 0.23 inch from August 10-31,
1.42 inches during September, and just 1.09 inches in October.
Percentages of normal rainfall are way down around 20 to 25% for
the period. September-October at 2.48 inches was the driest on our
61-year record.
