A SLOW MOVING FRONTAL SYSTEM IS BRINGING RAIN TO THE HILL
TODAY….
A slow moving cold front is slowly pushing through the region
as an area of low pressure develops along it. This has kept
mainly light rain ongoing through the day today. The first
batch of rain came through last evening with even some thunder
being reported across southeastern Massachusetts. However no
thunder was observed here at Blue Hill. 0.17″ of rain was
recorded through 7am this morning, with an additional 0.34″
falling between 7am and 1pm today.
Temperatures were warmest during the overnight hours, as a
matter of fact, the high for the day occurred at midnight with
a value of 54F. Readings have been gradually falling into the
upper 40s by late this morning into early this afternoon as
the beginning stages of a much colder air mass begin to
infiltrate the area.
Winds have been generally light and variable so far for the day,
but should shift to the west and increase later this evening.
The average speed for the day so far is only around 6mph. The
peak gust so far, which occurred just before 2:45am this morning
is 20mph.
Visibility has been quite limited today as we’ve been stuck in
the clouds here on the summit. The view, if you can call it that,
has been holding at around 1/8th of a mile all day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 54F degrees, which is
2 degrees above the normal high of 52F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 47F degrees, which is 11 degrees above the
normal low of 36F.
