BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

RECORD HEAT YESTERDAY, MUCH LESS HUMID AND SEASONABLE TODAY….

Yesterday featured record warmth for the hill. First we
set a new record high minimum for the date with a low of
68F, this broke the previous record of 67F which was set
back in 1992.

We also tied the record high for the date with a high of
93F. This was also previously set back in 1911.

A strong to severe thunderstorm developed just to the
northwest of the Observatory yesterday afternoon. While
this storm was bringing down trees in sections of Boston,
here on the hill we only got a few rain drops out of it
and an outflow boundary gust to 40mph out of the NNW.
Thunder could be heard here on the hill, as such it will
go down as a thunderstorm day.

A line of storms pushed through western portions of the
region last evening, but the line completely dissipated
before reaching here. As such not a drop of rain accompanied
the cold front.

The lack of rainfall is really starting to become concerning
with the Drought Monitor now having eastern Massachusetts
and Rhode Island classified as abnormally dry. The rainfall
deficits here on the hill are running -1.84″ for the month,
and is now -4.34″ for the year to date.

Today has been a rather pleasant day, despite a lot of
cloud cover this morning. Drier air and much more reasonable
temperatures is making for ideal weather for outdoor
activity.

The wind was a bit gusty this morning, but has since diminished
to light northerly early this afternoon. The average speed for
the day so far is around 11mph.

Visibility has been very good all day holding between 60-70
miles.

The high so far today is 72F, which is 3 degrees above the
normal maximum of 69F. The low since midnight is 58F, which
is 8 degrees above the normal minimum of 50F.
