STILL WELL BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURE-WISE, BUT MUCH LESS WIND….

Skies have remained clear today with the exception of some distant
stratocumulus, altocumulus, and cirrus clouds in various directions.
It’s one of those days where looking outside is a bit deceiving,
especially with the higher sun angle of early March. It looks
inviting out there, then you step outside and it’s like visiting
the Arctic.

Temperatures started in the single digits early this morning with
a reading of 8F degrees here on the summit. While we have “warmed”
up significantly into early this afternoon, readings are still a
solid 10 degrees below expected values for the date. The high so
far has only reached the 30F degree mark. Dew point values remain
on the very low side with values however a couple of degrees either
side of zero.

Winds have tapered down since yesterday and early this morning.
The average speed for the day so far is around 11mph, but the trend
is for decreasing speed as winds have dropped below 10mph early
this afternoon. The peak gust for the day occurred way back at
3:12am this morning with a value of 28mph.

Much like yesterday, thanks to the aforementioned dry air, we have
had exceptional visibility! We were in the 60 mile range for most
of the morning and improved to about 70 miles by the early
afternoon.

The maximum temperature for today is 30F degrees, which is 10
degrees below the normal high of 40F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 8 degrees, which is 15 degrees below the normal low
of 23F.
