MID WINTER COLD TODAY WITH WIND AND EVEN SOME SNOW….

A period of light snow fell this morning bringing with it 0.2″
of accumulation. This was in response to a weak upper level
system moving through within the arctic air mass that is over
the region today. As a matter of fact, backwards trajectory
shows that this air mass originated near the North Pole a few
days ago!

Temperatures have been struggling into the low 30s with a max
reading so far of 32F degrees. Just to reference how cold this
is for this time of year, the record low maximum temperature
for today is 31F set back in 1893. Also, the normal high for
today is 48F degrees, so far we’re 16 degrees below that mark!

The dew point has been dropping all day, starting in the mid
teens early this morning, now in the low to mid single digits
this afternoon. Quite indicative of an arctic air mass.

Visibility was limited early this morning in snow and fog, but
has since improved markedly into this afternoon with 80 miles
being seen.

The high so far today is 32F, which is 16 degrees below the
normal maximum of 48F. The low since midnight is 20F, which is
11 degrees below the normal minimum of 31F.
