A CHILLY RAW DAY SO FAR WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND A BRISK WIND….
Overcast skies have been the theme with light rain developing early
this morning. Periods of mainly light rain have continued into the
early afternoon hours with 0.13″ falling through 1pm. There has been
no signs of any frozen precipitation here on the summit, but we did
get a report of sleet in Hingham just before noon. Snow was also
reported in other areas to the north and west this morning.
The temperature made it to the mid 30s before the precipitation
arrived. It then slip back a bit to around 33F for a time before
recovering to the upper 30s early this afternoon. Either way, with
the damp weather out there, it feels quite raw. This is in stark
contrast to the low 60s we enjoyed just 2 days ago!
Winds have been gradually increasing out of mainly a southerly
direction. The average speed for the day so far is around 13mph.
Gusts have been occasionally exceeding 30mph through the mid to
late morning, and into the early afternoon hours. The peak gust so
far is 35mph, which occurred at 9:46am.
Visibility has been limited most of the day thanks to increasing
moisture in the air. The view started at around 40 miles early
this morning, but has now decreased to generally under 3 miles
by early this afternoon. With stratus fractus clouds drifting
over the summit, the visibility has become quite variable, dipping
as low as 1/8th of a mile at times.
The maximum temperature for today is 39F degrees, which is 8 degrees
below the normal high of 47F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 31F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the normal low of 29F.
