BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
MONDAY, JUNE 9, 2025
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0407E
SUNSET: 1920E
OVERCAST CONDITIONS CONTINUE WITH A COOL ONSHORE BREEZE AND LIMITED
VISIBILITY
We are currently stuck in a no man’s land region between an
approaching upper trough to the west, and departing upper ridge
to the east. As such there is very little wind flow up through
the mid levels of the atmosphere which is helping a rather
strong inversion to hang tough in the low levels. As a result,
we are stuck under an overcast deck of clouds which has persisted
all day. The high moisture content of the air with the light
onshore flow has also resulted in thin fog limiting visibility
generally under 15 miles all day.
With the lack of sunshine and the wind off the ocean, temperatures
have been held back today, only reaching the low 60s for a time
late this morning, but have dropped back into the upper 50s early
this afternoon. This is 10-15F degrees below the expected values
for this time of year. As mentioned the air has a high moisture
content, as noted by the dew point holding in the mid to upper 50s.
The wind has been averaging around 8mph today out of mainly the east
and east-northeast. The peak gust for the day so far is 20mph, which
occurred just after 9:30am this morning.
As mentioned, the visibility has been limited today ranging from 4
miles up to 15 miles. The lowest values have been occurring early
this afternoon and have been the most restricted in the northerly and
easterly sectors.
The maximum temperature for today is 61F degrees, which is 12 degrees
below the normal high of 73F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 55F degrees, which is 1 degree below the normal low of 56F.
