VERY HUMID TODAY WITH SOME MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL….

Some very early morning sunshine quickly gave way to increasing
clouds as a cold front approached the region. Rain showers
began falling around mid-late morning, starting off on the
light side, then becoming more moderate as we approached the
lunch-time hour. 0.24″ of rain has been recorded through the
1pm observation.

With the clouds and rain, the temperature is much cooler than
yesterday, with the max so far today of only 74F. However
it is very humid with the dew point approaching 70F!

A gusty S-SW wind has been the theme most of the day with an
average speed of around 17mph. The peak gust has been 35mph,
occurring just before 8am this morning.

Visibility has of course been limited today. First by haziness
early this morning when only 40 miles could be seen, then by
showers and fog this afternoon, during which the visibility
has been as low as 1/4 of a mile.

Today’s rainfall will help a bit with the recent dry conditions,
but will overall only be a drop in the bucket in relation to
the monthly and yearly deficits. Before the rain started this
morning, the deficits were 2.14 inches below normal on the month
and 7.16 inches below normal on the year. Our drought status
is currently in the moderate category, but will be updated on
Thursday morning incorporating today’s rainfall.

The first ripe blueberry of the season was observed on the
summit this morning.

The high so far today is 74F, which is 5 degrees below the
normal maximum of 79F. The low since midnight is 67F, which
is 6 degrees above the normal minimum of 61F.
