RAIN SHOWERS EARLY THIS MORNING, THEN GRADUAL CLEARING AND WARM….

A batch of showers moved through early this morning. While
thunderstorms were observed to our south and southeast, we
did not receive any thunder here on the hill. Regardless, we
did get some more much needed rainfall with 0.17″ falling
here on the summit. Not enough to help reverse current
drought status, but every little bit is welcomed.

High and mid level clouds have been gradually diminishing
through this morning leaving us with mainly cumulus clouds
this afternoon. There has still been enough low level moisture
that some of these cumulus have grown to become moderate in
size thanks to plenty of diurnal heating.

Temperatures have warmed into the low 80s early this afternoon.
The dew point, which started the day on the high side with
readings in the upper 60s, has been slow to decrease with the
reading down to 60 at the 1 P.M. observation. So it has felt
on the humid side today.

The wind, which started off light this morning, has been
gradually increasing a bit thanks to some mixing from aloft
this afternoon. The peak gust so far today is 23mph, which
occurred just after the 1 P.M. observation . The average speed
for the day so far is only around 9mph.

Visibility has been limited due to fog this morning, and
general haziness this afternoon. It’s up to 40-45 miles since
mid morning after starting the day around 1/16th of a mile
prior to the 7 A.M. observation.

The high so far today is 81F, which is 6 degrees above
the normal maximum of 75F. The low since midnight is 64F,
which is 7 degrees above the normal minimum of 57F.
