HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS AS A MORE TROPICAL-LIKE AIR MASS MOVES IN….

It looks and feels rather tropical out there today. Sunshine is
mixing with a lot of cumulus clouds, some of which are moderate
and have developed into rain showers. Despite the warm and humid
conditions, the haziness is less today than in previous days.
This is an indication that the air mass in place is nearly pure
tropical. We can thank former Tropical Storm Chantal for helping
to advect a tropical air mass into the region. Hopefully this will
also translate into getting a bit of much needed rainfall this week.

Temperatures were warm overnight, only dropping to 69F. They
quickly warmed up during the morning into the low 80s, and into the
mid to upper 80s by early this afternoon, but readings have dropped
back to the low 80s thanks to a rain shower. Dew point values have
risen as a result as well from the low 70s this morning to the mid
70s early this afternoon, yet another indicator of a tropical air
mass reaching the area.

The wind was fairly busy out of the southwest and west-southwest,
but has become more southerly early this afternoon. The average
speed for the day so far is around 13mph. The peak gust so far is
28mph, which occurred just before 10am.

Visibility had improved a bit from around 30 miles early this
morning to around 40 miles by late morning. However the view has
once again decreased thanks to rain showers in the area early this
afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 88F degrees, which is 7
degrees above the normal high of 81F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 69F degrees, which is 6 degrees above the
normal low of 63F.
