OVERCAST AND COOL WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS….
An upper level low that was well to the southeast of New England
yesterday backed into the region overnight and is right over
Southern New England today. As a result, clouds have dominated the
sky with scattered showers around since last evening. 0.12″ of
rain was measured at 7am this morning with an additional 0.04″
falling since that time. So even though it’s been a gloomy day,
the showers have for the most part been on the light side.
Temperatures are of course being held down by a combination of
the cloud cover and colder air aloft associated with the upper
low. Readings have been holding in the 60s all day, a solid 15
degrees below normal, at least through early this afternoon.
The wind has been light for the most part today, only averaging
around 7mph. The peak gust so far is only 16mph which occurred
just after midnight.
Visibility has been limited as one would expect with the scattered
showers and thin fog around. The view was under 1/2 for a time
this morning while we were in the cloud, but has improved to only
around 10-15 miles early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 67F, which is 15 degrees
below the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 61F, which is 1 degree below the normal low of 62F.
