MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES, A LITTLE BREEZY ON THE HILL TODAY….

Today has been a beautiful day on the hill, with bright,
abundant sunshine throughout the morning and afternoon, which
made for a scenic postcard style backdrop with all of the trees
and ground covered in snow. The temperatures have not been able
to get above the freezing point, though the sun has been a little
successful in melting some snow and ice off of the observatory
windows and roof.

The storm total for the observatory was 13.2 inches of snow with
1.67 inches of liquid equivalent. Snow was continuous for the day
yesterday and slowed down around 3pm but continued very light until
just after 10pm. As of our 1pm observation today, we have about
10 inches of snow depth.

Winds started off relatively low this morning but picked up a
little during the late morning. The average speed for the day so
far has been around 9mph. The peak gust for the day has been around
28mph, occurring just after 10am.

Visibility was around 30 miles at the first observation and by this
afternoon we had improved to 60 miles.

The maximum temperature so far today is 30F degrees, this is 5
degrees below the normal high of 35F. The minimum temperature
so far since midnight is 22F degrees, this is 3 degrees above
the normal low of 19F.
