BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 2022
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
SUNRISE: 0713E
SUNSET:  1624E

ABOUT 20 DEGREES COLDER TODAY, STILL NO SUNSHINE….

We completely changed the air mass today vs that of yesterday
as the temperature is a solid 20 degrees colder than this time
yesterday. The biggest change is in the amount of moisture in
the air, the dewpoint which was in the low-mid 40s yesterday,
has only been in the low to mid teens today!

While we’ve changed air masses, we have not been able to shake
the clouds. Today marks the 6th consecutive day in which we have
not recorded any sunshine! Pretty remarkable!

A storm system that’s bringing snow to portions of the Mid
Atlantic today will slip east-northeast to the south of our
region this evening. As such we’re not expecting any snow here
at Blue Hill. However it’s certainly plenty cold enough for the
ski area to make snow, which they have been doing today.

With the very dry air, the visibility has improved markedly
over what we saw the past few days, reaching 80 miles today.

The high so far today is 28F (back at midnight), which is 8
degrees below the normal high of 36F. The low since midnight
is 23F, which is 3 degrees above the normal low of 20F.

Here are some interesting December and Annual rankings per our
Chief Scientist Mike Iacono!

The final rankings are now ready. December tied for tenth
warmest and 2021 tied for fifth warmest.
