ANOTHER LIGHT SNOWFALL EVENT OVERNIGHT; SUNNY AND MILDER TODAY…

Yet another clipper system brought a light snowfall to the area
overnight. 1.5″ of snow was measured here on the summit of Blue Hill,
bringing the monthly total to 1.9″ and the seasonal total to 22.9″.
The seasonal total is 12.2″ shy of the expected amount by this date,
so the snow drought continues. The snow melted down to 0.15″ of
liquid, yielding a “normal” 10:1 ratio!

Once the snow ended just before 4am this morning, we were stuck in
the clouds (dense freezing fog) while the temperature was in the 20s.
This resulted in the accumulation of some light rime ice on all
surfaces early this morning. While rime isn’t unheard of here at Blue
Hill, it’s occurrence doesn’t happen too often and is a treat when it
does.

The fog burned off by mid morning with filtered sunshine taking over
through mainly high clouds. Some mid and low level clouds did join in
for a time during the late morning hours, but those have since
dissipated.

Temperatures have warmed nicely from the 20s early this morning to
the low 40s by early this afternoon, which is above normal for this
time of year.

Winds are steady, but generally on the light side, averaging under
10mph. The peak gust for the day so far is only 16mph, which occurred
right around 3am this morning.

Visibility is limited today due to high levels of moisture in the air.
The view improved from a 1/4 mile or less early this morning to around
30-35 miles by early this afternoon.

The maximum temperature for today is 42F degrees, which is 7 degrees
above the normal high of 35F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 24F degrees, which is 6 degrees above the normal low of 18F.
