A TOUCH OF FREEZING RAIN OVERNIGHT, OTHERWISE A GRAY AND WET
DAY TODAY….
A large and powerful storm system tracking through the Great Lakes
northward into Canada brought a warm front through the area
overnight. Ahead of this feature, cold surface temperatures held
while rain overspread the region, leading to a period of freezing
rain late last evening into the first hour or two of today.
Thereafter, enough warming occurred to change it over to plain
rain.
Today has featured overcast skies with periods of drizzle and
rain through the day. Rainfall amounted to 0.22″ overnight with
an additional 0.09″ falling between 7am and 1pm today.
Temperatures have warmed up quite a bit today following the
warm frontal passage. Readings have reached the mid 40s this
afternoon, marking only the 7th day this month to reach 40F
degrees or higher. As a matter of fact, today will only be the
7th day this month to have an average temperature above normal!
The wind has been fairly steady so far today, mainly out of the
south-southwest. The average speed for the day so far is around
16mph. There was a period of stronger gusts during the predawn
hours during which the peak gust for the day so far occurred.
35mph was measured just before 4:30am this morning. More strong
winds are expected to develop tonight and last through tomorrow.
Visibility has of course been very poor today since we’ve been
stuck in the clouds (fog) the entire day. The visibility has
only been between 1/16th and 1/8th of a mile all day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 46F degrees, which is
9 degrees above the normal high of 37F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 31F degrees, which is 10 degrees above the
normal low of 21F.
