COLD AND DRY START TO DECEMBER; PLENTY OF SUNSHINE ON THIS MONDAY….
Despite the beautifully deep blue skies and a boat load of sunshine,
the air is quite chilly again today, even for early December standards.
This morning featured the coldest temperatures so far this season
with a low of 22F. We have recovered to the mid 30s so far early this
afternoon, which is around 7 degrees below normal for the date!
The dew point started the day in the mid teens, but has risen to the
low 20s early this afternoon. Either way, the air mass is quite dry
and is contributing to the added chill to the air.
We observed a decent, but thin layer of ice on Ponkapoag pond this
morning as a result of the recent cold snap. So far no signs of ice
on Houghton’s, which is deeper and takes a bit longer to cool off.
Winds were fairly steady through the morning, but are trending downward
as we push through the early afternoon hours. The average speed for the
day so far is around 10mph, but has been generally around 6-7mph for the
past couple of hours. The peak gust for the day thus far is 18mph,
which occurred at 3:34am this morning.
Visibility has been decent all day, holding at around 60 miles.
The maximum temperature for today is 37F degrees, which is 7 degrees
below the normal high of 44F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 22F degrees, which is 7 degrees below the normal low of 29F.
