DOG DAYS OF SUMMER WITH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPS
WRAP UP THE WARMER THAN NORMAL MONTH OF AUGUST

*HURRICANE CAROL SWEPT THROUGH NEW ENGLAND ON THIS
DATE IN 1954, WIND GUSTED TO 125 MPH SE AT BLUE HILL*

Sunday’s heat and building humidity marked a return to
above normal temperatures during a month that featured
many warm streaks. Following Sunday, temperatures for
the month of August have averaged 2.8 degrees above
normal, with another hot day on tap for Monday.

This morning’s 7:00 AM EST observation featured hazy
and smoky skies, which had reduced visibility down to
just 12 miles with no low clouds in site. Temperatures
have warmed quickly throughout the day with dew points
in the low to mid 60s. By the 1:00 PM EST observation
winds had picked up from the WSW and were sustained at
13 knots gusting to 18; however, temperatures had still
manage to climb to a maximum of 87F by that time.
