Join us for “An Evening Among the Stars” on Friday, July 14th, 2023

Blue Hill Observatory invites the Greater Boston Community to a celebration like no other. Please join us for “An Evening Among the Stars” a special gala taking place atop Great Blue Hill to mark the Observatory’s reopening. Special guests include, meteorologists Tim Kelley and Jim Cantore. Fun fact, Tim and Jim were college roommates who went on to broadcast meteorology stardom serving the community locally and nationally for over 30 years with expert weather forecasting. Mix and mingle with Tim and Jim while enjoying a most festive and celebratory evening marking the Observatory’s reopening after a two-year closure.

Tim Kelley, Blue Hill Observatory Board Member, Renowned Meteorologist and Weather Historian

Here’s what is in store for you:
  • Leisurely tour the Observatory, where you may visit our historic room showcasing our newly bound climate record books, spend time on our rooftop and explore the new “Mish Michaels Hall for Scientific Discovery.”
  • Relax outside enjoying speciality beverages and hors d’oeuvres while soaking up a stunning panoramic view of Greater Boston with jazz music filling the air.
  • Under a beautiful tent you will be served a four course catered dinner with a choice of two savory entrees, slow cooked salmon with potato puree, julienne vegetables in a basil vinaigrette or braised short ribs, onions soubise and root vegetables in a red wine jus.
  • For your pleasure, with the purpose to bring funds to the Observatory, we also have a silent auction with attractive items that we know you will enjoy.
  • Our brief program will include special guest, Jim Cantore, meteorologist extraordinaire for The Weather Channel who is frequently reporting from the frontline of extreme weather events. Joining Jim, will be budding climate scientist Mari Jackson who heard her professional calling through engagements at the Observatory beginning in the fifth grade.

  • Jazz lovers take note. Throughout the evening you will be treated to the musicianship of Greg Abate, New England saxophonist, flutist and composer along with his quartet made up of piano, bass and drums. Greg has had an extraordinarily diversified International career that includes playing lead alto for the Ray Charles Orchestra in the 70’s and tenor sax for the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra. He has recorded or performed with other jazz greats, including Phil Woods, Kenny Barron, Claudio Roditi, Red Rodney, Ben Riley, George Mraz, Rufus Reid, James Williams and many more.
