From April Break to August: Programs for Every Young Explorer
Educational Programs · Spring & Summer 2026

From April break through the end of August, Blue Hill Observatory has programs for students of all ages — from week-long nature adventures for elementary schoolers to an intensive meteorology career program for high schoolers. Here’s everything coming up this spring and summer.
April Break
Weather & Trail Explorer
Ages 7–12
Over four days, students explore nature in the Blue Hills while learning about weather, climate, and their longstanding impact on the environment. Each day starts with a hike, followed by hands-on weather data collection, instrument building, and creative documentation of the natural world.
Summer 2026
High School: Launch Your Meteorology Career
Rising 8th Graders – College Freshmen
An intensive 6-day program for aspiring meteorologists. Students sharpen observation and forecasting skills, learn broadcasting techniques from trusted meteorologists — including veteran Tim Kelley — and record their own forecast.
Middle School: Explore Your Environmental Science Career
Rising 6th–8th Graders
A 6-day program exploring environmental STEM careers through guest speakers, fieldwork in the Blue Hills, field trips, and a culminating project. Students investigate real-world challenges and present authentic solutions to professionals in the field.
Elementary: Weather & Trail Explorer
Elementary School
Students explore the great outdoors of the Blue Hills while learning about weather, climate, and their impact on the environment. Every day starts with a hike up to the Observatory. Each week has its own theme — families can choose the session that fits best, or sign up for more than one.
Field Trips for Schools
Bring your students to the Observatory for hands-on exploration of weather and the natural world. Our new Cloud Observation program for K–2 helps students build foundational science skills through real-world observation.
