BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2024
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0627E
SUNSET:  1629E

BREEZY CONDITIONS CONTINUE, LOTS OF SUNSHINE TODAY….

Today started off considerably cooler and near normal with a low
of 41F. As the sun warmed the parched ground we saw a quick climb
in temperatures, topping out at 62F by the final observation at
1pm. We have had very little clouds, mostly off in the distance
so plenty of sunshine and all in all a beautiful day on the hill!

The average wind speed for the day so far is around 13mph which is
similar to yesterday around this time. Last night and into the
overnight we had lower wind speeds but after 8am we started to get
more steady wind. Our peak so far was around 39mph which occurred
around 10:30am.

Visibility has been fantastic with the continuation of lower dew
points. We held between 60-70 miles throughout the day, despite
a morning smoke layer and the unfortunate return of smoke plumes
by the afternoon.

It’s been an impressive start to the month with two monthly top
five temperatures and the latest 80 ever observed. This information
was compiled by our chief scientist, Mike Iacano:

BHO Warmest November Temperatures, deg F (1885-2024):

1) 81 on 2 Nov 1950
2) 80 on 6 Nov 2024
3) 78 on 2 Nov 1982
4) 77 on 4 Nov 1987
77 on 1 Nov 2024
6) 76 on 5 Nov 1994

The maximum temperature so far today is 62F, which is 9 degrees
above the normal high of 53F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 41F, which is 5 degrees above the normal low of 36F.
