GLOOMY START YIELDS TO SUNNY SKIES AND EXCEPTIONAL WARMTH…

Dense fog descended upon the summit yesterday evening and maintained
its firm grip through sunrise. Visibility checked in at only
1/16 of a mile at 7am! However, conditions quickly improved.
By mid-morning, we observed mostly sunny skies and a max
visibility of 40 miles. Since temperatures were already in the
upper-40s at daybreak, it didn’t take much sunshine to boost
temps into the low-70s by early afternoon. In fact, we have
so far tied the daily record high of 72F (last reading seen was
in 2012)!

Winds are generally light today with only a peak gust of 20
MPH. Interestingly, the winds are from the WNW-NW and one would
expect to see temperatures more closely aligning with the normal
high in the mid-40s…a sign of an approaching storm just to our
west that is ushering warmth northward out ahead of its center.
As such, guidance indicates a wet Saturday.

Speaking of rainfall, very light precipitation was picked up in
our gauge last night- only leaving 0.06 ins. As of today, we are
officially below average in the precip department.

The high so far today is 72F, which is 28 degrees above the
normal maximum of 44F – it also ties the daily record high set
in 2012. The low since midnight is 45F, which is 18 degrees above
the normal minimum of 27F.
