ANOTHER HUMID DAY, NOT AS HOT, HAZINESS AND SMOKE RETURNS….

Yesterday’s high of 93F was only a couple degrees shy of the record
of 95F, set in 1925. Overnight, our low only reached 70F (69.9F) and
surprisingly, that wasn’t even close to our record high overnight low
which was 78F, also set back in 1925. 70F for an overnight low this
time of year is quite anomalous, and thankfully it seems like the
current pattern should shift from that in the coming days.

Despite the heat and potential for convection, we have so far come up
empty handed in the precipitation department, with only 0.01 inches
for the month. While we are coming out of a previously soggy month
prior, starting the first week at -0.79 inches is not good, especially
with the above normal temperatures.

Speaking of temperatures, it has not been as warm as yesterday, but
with dew points still holding steady in the mid 60s, it really feels
quite muggy and summer-like. Thanks to the mostly cloudy conditions
and a generous sea breeze, we have warmed to 81F so far today. The
temperatures have started to slip into the upper 70’s after the final
observation, more than likely due to the sea breeze.

Yesterday’s southwesterly flow had brought very mild air to the hill,
so today’s sea breeze has been a welcome. The wind has been out of the
east northeast for much of the day, and with ocean temperatures in the
mid 50s, the air is much cooler. The average wind speed for the day so
far is around 10mph. The peak gust so far today is 27mph, which occurred
just after 6am.

Visibility has been limited today due to haziness. We have held steady
at around 20 miles for much of the day. A smoke layer was visible by
the early afternoon.

The maximum temperature for today is 81F degrees, which is 9 degrees
above the normal high of 72F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 70F degrees, which is 15 degrees above the normal low of 55F.
