SLIGHTLY MORE ENJOYABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS AFTER
A BIT OF OVERNIGHT RAINFALL….
We measured 0.04 inches this morning, ending the almost
10-day rainless streak! Skies today were partly cloudy
while visibility was limited at 40 miles on average.
We had a cool breeze from the west, increasing in
significance as the day went on. Speeds were almost
15 mph on average with frequent gusts around 20 mph.
A small brush fire was also seen east of the hill at
the 1 P.M. observation.
The yearly rain deficit has now reached 9.18″ below normal!
Most of the area, including the Greater Boston Area and points
north and northwest out to Worcester are under a severe drought.
With only 0.77″ of rain for the month of July so far, we decided
to take a look at the driest Julys on record here at Blue Hill.
Here is the list. If the month ended today, this year would
rank 4th on the list.
BHO Lowest July Precipitation, inches (1885-2021):
1. 0.13 in 1953
2. 0.33 in 1957
3. 0.72 in 1968
4. 0.85 in 1917
5. 0.87 in 1937
6. 0.92 in 1965
7. 1.08 in 1939
8. 1.11 in 1983
9. 1.13 in 1970
10. 1.14 in 1946
Average temperatures for the month are really creeping up the
rankings list despite the seemingly pleasant start to the month.
Through yesterday, the 24-hour adjusted mean temperature is
75.0F. This means if the month ended today, we would be in
second place on the rankings list.
BHO Warmest July 24-Hour Adjusted Mean Temperature, deg F (1885-2021):
1. 75.1 in 2010
2. 74.9 in 1952
3. 74.5 in 2019
4. 74.1 in 1994
74.1 in 2013
6. 74.0 in 2011
74.0 in 2016
8. 73.8 in 1999
9. 73.6 in 2018

The stats above were compiled by our Chief Scientist Mike Iacono.
Drought section written by Assistant Chief Observer,
the one and only Matthew Douglas!!!!
The high so far today is 90F, which is 8 degrees above the
