GREAT BLUE HILL…
A number of changes to discuss here!:
First off are the temperatures. We achieved our 2nd
heatwave this season less than 48 hours ago- the 3 day daily
max readings were 93F, 95F, & 94F respectively. Subtract
about 40 degrees and are witnessing the mercury dialing
back to the mid-50s today! A high of just 65F occurred
at midnight, and we have since been rolling through
the 60s and 50s…not the direction you typically see in July.
As of 1PM, the air temp and low are 56F.
Second is the rainfall: Following the thunderstorms on Wednesday
that left 0.54″ of rainfall, we experienced another slug of
moisture rotating in from the southwest. The overnight deposit
totalled a whopping 2.03″ – most of it dropping in a 12-hour
window. These 2 precipitation events have erased a large portion
of the annual deficit (from -3.59″ to now -1.67″). Light rain
continues to fall throughout today adding a meager 0.03″
to the storm total.
Third is the wind: A NE wind has been escalating throughout
the daytime hours aiding the temperature decrease. Peak wind
so far today is 37 MPH.
As far as the skies and visibility are concerned, we are socked
in fog. 1/16 is the best we’ve “seen” so far. Intermittent light
rain has been the theme.
The high so far today is 65F, 15 degrees below the daily average
of 80F. The low so far today is 56F, 6 degrees below the daily
average of 62F.

Here are the final temperature rankings for June 2021. Last month
was the first June to ever average as high as 70F, and the previous
record was surpassed by 1.3 deg F, which is a very large jump for a
monthly record.
BHO Warmest June 24-Hour Adjusted Mean Temperature, deg F (1885-2021):
1) 70.0 in 2021
2) 68.7 in 1999
3) 68.5 in 2001
4) 68.3 in 1925
68.3 in 1930
6) 68.2 in 1994
7) 68.0 in 1943
BHO Warmest June Average Maximum Temperature, deg F (1885-2021):
1) 80.9 in 2021
2) 80.4 in 1930
3) 80.3 in 1949
4) 79.5 in 1957
79.5 in 1976
BHO Warmest June Average Minimum Temperature, deg F (1885-2021):
1) 60.4 in 2021
2) 59.9 in 1925
3) 59.8 in 2001
4) 59.7 in 1999
5) 59.5 in 2008
Six 90-degree days ties with 1997 for the most in June, and two heat
waves is a new record, since this has never happened before in June
at BHO.
