DAILY PRECIP RECORD UNOFFICIALLY BROKEN AS OVERNIGHT
DELUGE BRINGS 2.03 INCHES OF NEW RAIN, THUNDER, LIGHTNING
Rain, beginning before midnight EST last night, brought heavy
rain for nearly three continuous hours, totaling 2.03 inches
by this morning’s 7:00 AM EST observation. Nearly all of the
rain fell after midnight EST this morning, unofficially breaking
today’s daily precipitation record of 1.68 inches, set in 1933.
During the 12:45 AM to 1:00 AM EST period, rainfall rates nearly
exceeded 2 inches per hour.
Fog cleared gradually this morning, with some sunshine by the
10:00 AM EST observation. By 1:00 PM EST sunshine was abundant
with scattered stratocumulus, cumulus and cirrus fibratus. Visibility
had increased slightly to 20 miles in all directions thanks to
haze. A maximum temperature of 77F has been recorded so far.
