RECORD WARMTH, GUSTY WINDS, RAIN BEFORE COLD FRONT SWEEPS THROUGH…
Hopefully you took your winter gear along this morning as things will
turn noticeably colder as we approach sunset! But first things first:
Yesterday’s minimum temperature of 43F set a new record for the highest
low temp for the date – this beats the old value of 38F observed in
1981. To coincide, winds cranked from the southwest allowing for this
abnormally warm air to invade the region. 593 miles of air traversed
over the summit for a daily average of 24.7 MPH!
The mild, windy conditions once again greeted us here at sunrise. 58F
read the mercury with a dew point of 58F(!) at 7am. However, soon after
the observation, a cold front finally passed switching the wind direction
from the SSW to NW. In response, the temperature and dew point have crashed.
As of 1pm, the dry bulb was noted at 42F with a dew point of 27F and falling
…a sharp change!
The high today is 59F, 21 degrees over the normal high of 38F. The low since
midnight is 42F, which is 22 degrees above the normal minimum of 20F.
