WINDY CONDITIONS AND BELOW AVERAGE TEMPS MAKE FOR A BLUSTERY
DAY ON BLUE HILL TODAY….

Yesterday’s observed precipitation moved out from our area by
the evening hours and was replaced with a dry air mass and below
average temperatures. The 3″ of snow we received put us above
for the month, but we are still in a deficit of liquid precipitation
-0.36 for the month and -1.36 for the year.

This morning’s recorded low of 25F has only seen a mild improvement,
even with the sun out for much of the day. The windy conditions and
cold advection is definitely playing a role in suppressing the
temperatures for today. By the final observation we had only made it
to 30F.

The wind has been a dominant force today, with an impressive average
around 17mph. The wind had picked up last night around 6pm with a shift
to the WNW and with averages over 20mph during the overnight hours. We
had some “slow” periods during the early morning hours, however, the
last few hours we are around the 18-20mph average mark. The peak gust
for the day so far is 39mph, which occurred at 12:21am this morning.

Visibility was around 40 miles this morning but improved to 70 miles
during the mid morning and afternoon.

The maximum temperature for today is 30F degrees, which is 13 degrees
below the normal high of 43F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 25F degrees, which is 3 degrees below the normal low of 28F.
