WIND DIRECTION BACKS TO SW OVERNIGHT: CLOUDS LIFTING, TEMPS. WARMING;
TOMORROW MARKS THE 59TH ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE CAROL
Late yesterday evening, the wind direction gradually began backing from a
NE direction, becoming a SW wind by sunrise this morning. The change in
wind direction provided for improving conditions: dissipating fog,
decreasing clouds, and increasing temperatures. The high temperature has
reached the upper 70s today, which is about 15-20 degrees warmer than
yesterday afternoon’s temperatures.
The light drizzle and occasional rain showers that persisted much of
yesterday ended with the change in wind direction. A total of 0.05 inch
of rain was recorded yesterday.
Tomorrow, August 31, will mark the 59th anniversary of Hurricane Carol.
A peak wind gust of 125 mph from the SE was measured on the summit. The
sea level pressure bottomed out at 973.2 mb (28.741 inches), and 2.46 inches
of rain was recorded. The windows and the building itself were noted to
have been “plastered with leaves” after the storm.
