BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22, 2025
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0459E
SUNSET:  1834E

NEAR SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES RETURN, MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES….

Plenty of sunshine with mostly clear skies throughout the day.
It would not be believable that a hurricane is off to our
northeast, if it wasn’t for the clouds that were seen offshore
this morning, as well as the active surf. Hurricane Erin is
moving to the northeast without a direct impact on land thankfully.
We had some additional clearing during the midmorning hours and
as the surface warmed up to near seasonable temperatures we had
a few cumulus appear throughout the sky.

Temperatures have rebounded nicely with the addition to bright
sunshine and dry air. We have made it just to 80F by the final
observation reading at 1pm. Even though it is nearly 15 degrees
warmer today, the dry air has kept the dew point and humidity
levels low, making it not feel like a typical sticky summer day.
Dew point values have been holding in the upper 40s for much of
the day, making for a very comfortable day overall.

As Erin neared her approach to the area, the intensity of the
wind peaked in the early evening hours last night. Since then,
the wind has shifted to a more northerly flow and has slowly
decreased as Erin veers to the northeast. The average wind speed
so far for the day is around 11mph. The peak gust for the day so
far is around 25mph, which occurred during the overnight hours at
2:56am this morning.

Visibility has hovered between 60-70 miles today. Dry air and
clear skies have given us a continued rare treat in August, as
hazy conditions typically are the norm around this time of year.

The maximum temperature so far today is 79F degrees, which is
1 degree below the normal high of 80F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 53F degrees, which is 9 degrees below the
normal low of 62F.
