MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2020
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
DRY, COOL, AND BREEZY DAY AT BLUE HILL….
As hurricane Teddy transitions to an extratropical
storm to the east of New England today, a brisk north
to northwesterly wind has been the theme along with
increasing amounts of mainly high clouds. Unfortunately,
the storm system isn’t getting close enough to bring
any much needed rainfall.
Thanks to all the cloud cover, the temperature has been
held only in the low 60s here at Blue Hill, this is
still below normal for the date. As a matter of fact
we had our first sub 40 degree temperature of the season
this morning with a low of 39 degrees occurring at around
5 A.M.
After yesterday’s rather high pressure reading, today
the pressure has been taking a nosedive as the storm
system makes its closest pass to the region this afternoon.
The pressure between 10 A.M. and 1 P.M. dropped an
impressive 5.0 millibars, that’s about .15 in/hg!
Despite the cloud cover, the visibility has remained
excellent today averaging 70-80 miles!
It has been 11 days since we’ve recorded any measurable
rainfall (0.01″ on the 11th). Only 0.51″ has fallen for
the month to date, which is 2.23 inches below normal.
For the year, our deficit is running 4.44 inches below
normal. The region continues to be generally in a
moderate drought, however severe drought conditions are
being observed across portions of south coastal
Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The high so far today is 61F, 8 degrees below the daily
normal max of 69F. The low since midnight is 39F, which
is 13 degrees below the normal low of 52F.
