DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
THURSDAY, JULY 5, 2018
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
ANOTHER VERY HOT, HUMID DAY
The long stretch of unseasonably hot weather has continued today. After a
warm morning low of 73F, the temperature had hit a high of 91F by the 2PM EDT
observation. Oppressively high dew points in excess of 70F have compounded
the heat. Hazy conditions have been present, with the visibility limited to
just 10 miles due to haze early this morning before climbing somewhat to 25
miles by afternoon. Mostly sunny skies have become partly cloudy with some
cumulus clouds developing during the day. Winds have picked up a little to
around 10mph, coming in out of the southwest.
While yesterday was another hot day, the high of 89F means that our official
heat wave has come to an end at four days (6/30-7/3). Still, the duration of
this hot weather pattern has been impressive, with today marking 7
consecutive days with a high temperature of at least 87F.
