BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2020
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
FALL-LIKE WITH GREAT VISIBILITY AND A
COOL WESTERLY BREEZE….
Today was a great example of an early fall day. It
consisted of high visibility, cool temperatures, and
a bit of wind. Visibility was 80 miles all day, and
wind was constant from the west at around 20 mph.
The max gust encountered since 7 A.M. is 35 mph, seen
around 9 A.M. Skies were almost clear, becoming partly
cloudy by the 10 A.M. observation.
The observatory is very busy with rooftop tours, which
is $3 per adult and less for children. We’re open until
4 P.M. today (as with all weekend days), and the view is
definitely worth the hike. Drop-in tours starting at
10 A.M. EDT are also allowed on weekdays. This is the
time of year to visit the observatory, since the fall
weather yields the best visibility, as well as the best
hiking weather.
The high so far today is 75F, which is 2 degrees below
the daily normal maximum of 77F. The low since midnight
is 61F, a degree above the average of 60F.
