CLOUDY START BREAKS FOR WARM SUNSHINE…
With a low temperature of just 55 degrees, it was off
to the races! Considerable cloudiness during the morning
prevented any rapid warming initially. However, around
late morning clouds eroded leading to sunny skies. Temperatures
responded sending the high so far to 71 degrees with more
warming likely! This ties the record high for the date –
which was seen in 1959 and in 2015. Latest guidance indicates
we will remain well above average through at least most of
the next work week.
We’ve also noted that dew points have been anomalously
high for this time of year. Dew points peaked yesterday in
the mid-50s! Today, a bit closer to normal – it has slipped
from the upper-40s to the low-40s.
Visibility has been very limited all day. Max distance so far
is 45 miles thanks to a good deal of haze. Winds have eased
from yesterday’s peak of 37 MPH and average speed of 18.2 MPH.
That mean speed indicates 437 miles of air passed over the
observatory from the SW! Today’s peak is 25 MPH with an
average of 12.1 MPH.
The high so far today is 71F, which is 18 degrees above the
daily normal maximum of 53F! The low since midnight is 55F,
which is 19 degrees above the daily normal minimum of 36F.
