Applications are Now Open for Blue Hill Observatory’s “Launch Your Meteorology Career” Program
Join us at the Blue Hill Observatory July 14 to July 19, 2025 for an expansive introduction to meteorology that includes an exploration of 21st century career opportunities with Tim Kelley, a veteran meteorologist and weather historian.
Our summer meteorology program is for students who have an interest in the weather and wish to explore careers in meteorology and atmospheric science with professional meteorologists and scientists from various sectors.
Participants in our week-long program will:
- Receive inspirational and individualized guidance from Tim Kelley, including making a weather forecast for your birthday
- Experience an immersive understanding of meteorology through on-site discourse and field trips
- Learn to accurately observe and forecast the weather
- Examine proven broadcasting techniques from local meteorologists
- Prepare and record a personal forecast
Who can apply? Students currently in 7th – 12th grade with a passion for meteorology and atmospheric sciences.
Details
- An application, including a 1-page essay outlining your interest in the program, is required to be considered for the program
- Tuition for the workshop is $750
- The final application deadline is May 1 (final decisions will be made by May 15, if not sooner since applications will be accepted on a rolling basis)
- If you are accepted, a non-refundable deposit of $150 is due 2 weeks after acceptance to hold your seat
- Final payments are due June 1, 2025
- A financial aid program has been established by a generous donor and may be available to those who apply (see the application for more information).
