SNOW STORM ARRIVES AS BLUE HILL CELEBRATES IT’S 136TH
BIRTHDAY….

February 1st, 1885 the first observation at Blue Hill was taken
and we haven’t missed a day since! The endurance and continuity
of this institution is one to be extremely proud of. All of us
here at Blue Hill Observatory take great pride in continuing
the legacy started by our founder, Abbott Lawrence Rotch, 136
years ago!

The other big story is the storm system that is affecting much
of the Mid Atlantic and Northeast. Snow began here at Blue Hill
between 4-5 A.M. this morning with 0.3″ measured at 7 A.M.
Occasional light snow continued before becoming steady between
noon and 1 P.M. An additional 0.1″ was measured at 1 P.M.

The wind has been increasing steadily through the morning into
early this afternoon with a peak gust so far of 39 MPH.

The high temperature so far today is 32F, this is 2 degrees
below the daily normal maximum of 34F. The low since midnight
is 22F, which is 5 degrees above the normal minimum of 17F.
