Hi – I would like to get more information about the summer workshop. Is it a week long session the week of July 15? What is the cost? We would be coming from out of state – is their lodging available? My daughter will be entering 9th grade and is very interested in meteorology.

      Dear Steve,
Thanks for your interest in the workshop. Monday July 15 Through Friday July 19th the students all gather at Blue Hill Observatory for classes and lessons. Field Trips leave from the Observatory at varying times based on the availability of hosts at the National Weather Service and different TV stations.
The day usually wraps up around 4:00. We recognize parents may have work schedules that need more latitude than 9 to 4 so you can drop your daughter off as early as 8 AM an pick her up as late as 5:30 pm. We also sometimes arrange drop offs depending on where you stay. For example, Homewood Suites is within walking distance of the Observatory or one of our staff can pick up/drop off there.
Other places people stay are on Route 1/Providence Highway in Dedham or Norwood which has everything from Budget Inn to Luxury Suites. We have a special rate of $159.00 a night at Marriot in Quincy or Foxboro if that is cheaper than what you can find on Kayak/Priceline/Trip Advisor let us know and we can coordinate that. Both of those sites are less than 30 minutes from the Observatory. There is also a resort campground in Foxboro if you prefer that.
The cost of the Summer Workshop is $695.00 and includes snacks and lunch Monday through Friday and Snacks before or after the Saturday taping. Occasionally due to religous needs of some attendees we will have a Sunday taping. That will be announced by Tuesday of the program if not sooner.
Charles Orloff can send you the application. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to phone or email.
Please make sure we have your correct e-mail. I tried to send one to and it bounced back.
      Thank you,
      Don McCasland, Program Director
