The Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center stands at an exciting inflection point. As climate understanding has never been more urgent — and public interest in environmental science continues to grow — the Observatory is expanding its Board to build the leadership capacity needed for its next phase of impact.

Board service here means more than governance. It means stewarding a National Historic Landmark, advancing one of the most consequential scientific records in the Western Hemisphere, and helping connect the next generation to the science that will define their future.

This role is designed for senior executives, entrepreneurs, and leaders across business, science, policy, and philanthropy who are prepared to contribute their expertise, networks, and vision to a mission of genuine national significance.

Responsibilities

What board service involves

Board members provide strategic leadership, financial stewardship, and institutional ambassadorship. Responsibilities include:

• Providing mission-driven governance and long-term strategic direction
• Partnering with the Executive Director on strategic priorities and organizational growth
• Serving as a visible ambassador and leveraging professional networks for institutional advancement
• Supporting resource development, including an annual personal leadership-level gift
• Actively participating in quarterly board meetings and serving on at least one committee
• Identifying and recruiting high-caliber board candidates and institutional partners
